Sandiway Primary School

In addition to making the flow of students through the lunch service more efficient, a priority was to remove cash from the catering environment in order to ease the burden on catering staff and to give the school improved visibility and control of the financial situation.

Part of the Cheshire and West Chester Authority, Sandiway is an ‘outstanding’ Primary School with just short of 200 students,. The proportion of pupils eligible for free school meals is well below average.

The Challenge

In addition to making the flow of students through the lunch service more efficient, a priority was to remove cash from the catering environment in order to ease the burden on catering staff and to give the school improved visibility and control of the financial situation.

The Solution

The LunchHound cashless catering system is in daily use; Catering staff use the touchscreen till to process meal payments by using the students on-screen photograph for identication, the photograph is then touched to deduct the price of food items from the student’s cashless account. Meanwhile, office staff deal with the financial side; tracking payments and ensuring that parents have regular updates of account status, highlighting students who are overdrawn, running reports on meal orders taken, Free School Lunch uptake and a variety of other reports which help with keeping on top of the catering finances. Support is available at the end of a phone and support staff can quickly connect to the system remotely if needed.

Customer Comments

LunchHound has evolved over the three years we have been using it and close collaboration with the design team, who have been very receptive to our suggestions, has resulted in a system that copes well with our needs and brings many improvements to how we deal with school lunches, I’m sure that these changes will be very benecial to new users of the system. In general, Catering staff are far less involved in financial administration and can concentrate more on providing good meals and serving them up efficiently, meanwhile the office staff are now dealing with the cash side, the system does allow this work to be kept to a minimum. Accurate and timely reporting allows the school to keep a tighter grip on its finances and has provided us with a smooth and efficent way to communicate with parents about the status of their child’s account.
