The Dingle Primary School

An existing cashless catering system was proving to be slow and inflexible, a new system to speed things up and allow administration to be moved into the office away from catering was required. Additionally there was a need for an improved method for getting information out to parents. The priority was to take control of catering administration from the school office.

Set in Haslington with 350 students, The Dingle Primary School is a larger than average Primary School with a lower than average number of students eligible for Free School Meals.

The Challenge

An existing cashless catering system was proving to be slow and inflexible, a new system to speed things up and allow administration to be moved into the office away from catering was required. Additionally there was a need for an improved method for getting information out to parents.

The Solution

The new Lunch Hound cashless catering system was installed in 2012. As well as the till in the catering area an additional administration application allows office staff full access to the system to work on student accounts, view meal uptake and create reports, directly from their desktop. This is a site wide application which gives as many users as needed access to the administration view; useful in larger schools where the admin functions could be divided up. At the till, students are identified by their on-screen photograph, there is a very simple process for importing these and keeping them up to date if new students join. Although the school has a relatively low number of Free School meal students, this will change in September with the introduction of the Universal Infant Free School Meals policy; with the inevitable increase in numbers the ability to process Free School Meal payments simply and discreetly in Lunch Hound coupled with accurate reporting on Free School Meal uptake will increase in importance to the school.

Customer Comments

Lunch hound has significantly speeded up the whole process of planning, serving up and reporting on school dinners. Students are quickly dealt with at the till and payment taken from their account, balances can be checked and reports on meal numbers, student’s account status and Free School Meal uptake quickly created. Mailing lists held in the system are used to automatically provide up to date and accurate information to parents about what students have eaten, how much is on their account and feed out reminders where students are excessively overdrawn. With the handling and management of cash taken out of the catering area and moved into the office, we now have much better visibility of the overall financial situation. Support has been brilliant! Always available and very responsive. If there’s a need for the engineer to connect into the system that seems to be done simply and with very little fuss.
